How Rule of Third Connects Artists

Artists assisting artists

One of the really amazing things about the community of artists in the microstock world is their desire to help each other grow. For years now, these artists have been gathering together all over the world to create together. Because the websites facilitate the formation of relationships and social networking, artists are gathering together every week to shoot, draw and create art together.

Rule of Thirds helps experienced artists connect with fledgling artists in developing countries to form long-term mentoring relationships. Through trips and online training and forums, the artists share skills, tips, insights and encouragement.

The Rule of Thirds is about bringing balance.  For us, this includes bringing economic balance to world of online sales.  One could say, it is time for the “Third World” to rule through equal access to economic opportunity.

Why the name Rule of Thirds?

Rule of Thirds is an intentional play on words.  The label Third World is offensive and misleading.  It implies that people living in these countries are somehow less capable or developed than those living in better economic circumstances.  This simply isn’t true – the key difference between these peoples is opportunity.  With the advent of global internet access, the opportunity to balance the scales of economic and technological advantage has never been greater.

What does Rule of Thirds mean?

The (phrase) rule of thirds is a compositional rule of thumb in visual arts such as painting, photography and design.[1] The rule states that an image should be imagined as divided into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two equally-spaced vertical lines, and that important compositional elements should be placed along these lines or their intersections.[2] Proponents of the technique claim that aligning a subject with these points creates more tension, energy and interest in the composition than simply centering the subject would.
